Virtual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
Home Instead Senior Care Tavistock, Tavistock Dementia Alliance and Tavistock Memory Café have partnered with Memory Matters South West to offer new Virtual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy sessions for people living with dementia in the Tavistock area.
Virtual sessions will take place weekly, allowing people living with dementia to access support networks, advice, and therapy sessions online from the safety and comfort of their own homes. The workshops will exercise the mind, using talking activities to get those living with dementia thinking. This has been shown to help with some of the symptoms of the disease.
Lynn Roddy, owner of Home Instead Tavistock commented: “It’s great to be able to offer these sessions to local people living with dementia. Home Instead and our local charitable groups devote so much time to helping those on their journey with dementia in Tavistock and surrounds, so being able to personally offer these sessions to help improve the quality of life of those living with the disease is incredibly rewarding.”
Graham Coiley, Chair of Trustees of Tavistock Memory Café said: “It’s great that we can offer alternative online support to our community during the tricky times of COVID-19 restrictions. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy can offer therapeutic techniques, introduces a social activity, and can reduce isolation for those living with dementia. Thank you to all of the volunteers who have stepped forward to get involved.”
