CAREGiver Grandson awarded medal

We just had to share this utterly amazing story of one of our very special CAREGivers, Allie, and her very special family. Her grandson has just been awarded a medal by a national children’s charity for being especially brave and resilient. He has been named ‘Little Trooper of the Month’ by the charity Little Troopers after undergoing brain surgery just before Christmas. It all started with severe headaches and back pain. In 2019 he was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a condition that means the brain tissue was extending into his spine. His Dad works in the RAF and like all military personnel, his Dad once had to return home early from an overseas deployment after he developed sepsis and ended up in hospital. In 2020, the headaches got worse and the family was told that surgery was the only hope of stopping the pain. He had decompression surgery three weeks ago at Southampton Hospital where surgeons removed part of his brain and some bone to open up a passage so Cer

'Be a Santa' Gift Campaign

Be a Santa to a Senior, (now known as Be a Santa), was first introduced to Home Instead offices in 2006. The scheme started small, with only a few gifts being distributed to residents at a local nursing home. Over the years, the scheme has continued to grow and now Home Instead is proud to have helped provide millions of gifts worldwide to older people at Christmas. Our goal at the Taunton and West Somerset office was to distribute as many gifts possible to lonely, isolated, older people in the community who may not be seeing anyone this year, or even receiving a card or gift. We wanted to spread some Christmas cheer to those in need of it and let them know their community was thinking of them. This year was even bigger and better with nearly 300 gifts collected and distributed throughout the community!

Rudolph Malteser Competition Results

Although Elf day was over in a flash, for us it wasn’t the end of raising awareness and spreading some festive cheer. We continued to raise money for people affected by dementia and their families. You may remember in our previous news that we were running the competition, guess how many Maltesers in Rudolph! The person who guessed the correct amount, (or closest to it), would win ALL the Maltesers! Our directors, Noel and Vanessa, very kindly said that for every guess made they would donate £1 to Alzheimer's Society. Thank you Noel and Vanessa! Our very own new Home Instead Elf was the only one who knew the answer and he was keeping that secret until the great reveal! The Elf finally revealed how many Maltesers were in the jar, 288 and our CAREGiver Paul was the winner with the closest guess by 1 malteser! Thanks to everyone’s guesses we raised £84 in total for a very worthy cause, Alzheimer's Society.
