The Canal Inn

The Canal Inn deserves its reputation for serving one of the best Sunday lunches in the area. The kitchen pride themselves on presenting top quality beef cooked to perfection. But it is not just the roasts that have a dedicated local following, the steaks are a crowd pleaser too, and for the less meaty diners, fresh fish is delivered daily from the coast.

There is a great selection of local ales on tap, beers and ciders to choose from, and provide an authentic charm. This Inn feels homely and inviting; worlds away from a large brewery owned chain.

What makes the Canal Inn even more special to our clients and care professionals are the owners and the friendly, passionate staff. There is no pretension here, just a team who genuinely care about their pub.

We recommend booking ahead for Sunday lunch as it is a popular spot. Find The Canal Inn here.

The Merry Monk

The main attraction at The Merry Monk is the carvery – which is legendary amongst our clients and care professionals. We are reliably informed that the value for money is exceptional. But the beef, pork, turkey or vegan nut roast is not the only offering at this family owned bar and restaurant. There is a full menu of other classic pub options such as lasagne, burgers, or ham, egg and chips. What makes this a great choice for a family meal is that there is something for everyone.

The Merry Monk is a versatile venue that can cater for a quiet meal for two or a large event for a special occasion. Sunday lunch tends to be busy, with a buzzing ambience, and booking is recommended. You can find the pub in the heart of Monkton Heathfield on the outskirts of Taunton. La Bonne Vie

La Bonne Vie or ‘The Good Life’ is one of the longest running restaurants in Taunton. It opened for the first time in 1976 in a listed building at the top end of the High Street. The French flair of La Bonne Vie with its candles and checked table cloths, presents informal dining ‘bistro style’, and it has a compact bijoux ambience.

La Bonne Vie has a loyal local following due to its history, the fact that service comes with a smile and last but not least the tasty, comforting food. The family run restaurant has a wide ranging menu that includes omelette, french onion soup, fajitas and Louisiana chicken. Even the fussiest of eaters will be sure to find a dish that appeals, and for that reason it is a good choice to cater for all age groups.

For a larger family affair or something special, it is also worth noting that there is a room available at no additional charge that can fit up to 20 people.

‘What a gorgeous pub. Well laid out with lots of spaces. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The menu was extensive and the food so delicious. Wish we lived closer as we’d go again especially to try all those imaginative deserts. The bar/restaurant staff were very friendly and gave the right amount of time between each course.’ – Susan
