Lichfield Memory Cafe - A heartfelt tribute to Remembrance Sunday

Last week, at the Lichfield Memory Café, we came together to mark Remembrance Sunday in a truly special way.

A touching contribution to Lichfield Cathedral

Our members and volunteers joined in reflection, creativity, and gratitude as we remembered those who bravely served and sacrificed for our country.

We got our creativity flowing, by making poppies, which were added to a beautiful silhouette pop-up display, featuring a soldier standing in quiet contemplation.

A Silhouette with meaning

The finished piece was both moving and magnificent, capturing the spirit of remembrance and community that lies at the heart of our café. Dr. Trevor James led us in a thoughtful service, followed by a two-minute silence. It was a moment of stillness and unity that touched everyone present.

Together, we observed the two-minute silence, standing united in thought and gratitude for those who gave their lives in service. It was a peaceful, poignant moment that resonated deeply with everyone present.

A touching contribution

We are proud to share that our silhouette pop-up display has now been placed in Lichfield Cathedral, where visitors can pause and reflect on the courage and sacrifice of so many. To know that the collective effort of our members has become part of this city’s act of remembrance is truly humbling.

At Lichfield Memory Café, we often talk about the power of memory ; how sharing stories and experiences helps us connect and heal. This Remembrance Sunday, that sentiment felt especially meaningful. Through creativity, reflection, and community, we honoured not only those who fought for freedom, but also the enduring strength of remembering together.

We hope you can visit the cathedral to see the silhouette in all it’s glory!
