Michele Bushell, who is the Registered Care Manager for Home Instead Senior Care in Stockport/Tameside, has been selected to be part of a new national dementia project, Your Story Matters, which is funded by the Department of Health.
The project will see people, like Michele, being trained so they can spread knowledge and train others in their local communities to help deliver the government’s National Dementia Strategy. Michele works as the care manager forStockportbased company, Home Instead Senior Care, placing her in an ideal position to help others who deal with people living with dementia.
Your Story Matters centres around ‘Life Stories’ which delivers person centred care by placing the individual and their biography at the heart of their care and support. The idea is that people are given a practical set of tools to help them engage with the real person and see them beyond their illness.
Having won a coveted place on the project, Michele will be attending two training courses. The first is an introduction to the use of Life Story and the second will train her to be a trainer in the use of Life Story.
Once her training is complete Michele will share her knowledge with Home Instead’s 72 caregivers as well as spreading the word with local community groups, families, organisations and voluntary groups who work with, or come in to contact with, people with dementia.
Commenting on Michele’s achievement, David Moore of Home Instead in Stockport said, “We specialise in caring for elderly people in their own homes so we are very aware of the impact dementia has on people’s lives and how complex a condition it is.
“I’m really proud that Michele has been selected to be part of this project and we are all looking forward to learning about Life Story work from her. It will ultimately lead to better care for our clients and elderly people living in the Stockport and Tameside areas.”
