The monthly “Making a Difference” award for April goes to a CAREGiver whose endeavour and application has built trust with the client, but more importantly with her daughter, allowing her the confidence to get away for that all important break.

Commenting on the respite service they provide, David Moore, Managing Director of at home care company Home Instead Senior Care said, “Caring for a loved one can be a 24 hour 7 day a week job. If the carer does not take a break and recharge their batteries, we end up looking after the carer instead of the client. The importance of taking a few hours out and entrusting your family member to us is massive and has a great effect on both people. It allows the carer to return refreshed and motivated”.

The winner of the “MAD” award this month  goes to an outstanding CAREGiver: Cath Walsh. Cath has been with Home Instead Senior Care for over two years, and we have received some fabulous feedback from the clients she supports and also the client’s families.  Talking about the award, Michele Bushell, Care Manager says: “We had a lady who was the main carer for her Mother who has Alzheimer’s. She was caring for her 24 hours a day without any respite but she was very apprehensive about someone caring for her Mum. We started with a couple of hours a week at first and we selected Cath as the CAREGiver that went in to support the client. They hit it off straight away which reassured the daughter, which led to trying a few more hours with Cath, and it went really well. The client now has regular support from Cath whilst the daughter actually goes away for a few days at a time. This has meant the client is comfortable with her daughter going away but also allows the daughter to have some respite knowing her Mum is being cared for by Cath. Well done cath.
