This month’s “Making a Difference” award has been awarded to Caroline Howard for her work, not only with all her Clients but particularly with PB, who has recently sadly passed away. Caroline has been with Home Instead for over two years and throughout that time has delivered exceptional support to all her Clients. Caroline builds that special relationship with people, allowing her to improve their life and help them to live happily and healthy in their own homes.

Caroline was nominated for the award following the valuable support she gave to PB, a long term client who was with Home Instead for over 18 months. PB wanted to stay in her own home and Caroline supported her to do that through to her final days. Not only was she there for PB, but provided support for her family as well.  Caroline also took it upon herself to go to the hospital to be there for PB in her final hours. PB found this very reassuring. Caroline was with PB when she passed away, going the extra mile to make a huge difference to her final moments.

Talking about the support she provided to PB, Caroline said: “ I only knew PB for 18 months, and I know there are family and friends who had known her for much longer and better than I, however she had made a big impact on my life and we became very close in that time. PB had no need for airs and graces, what you saw was what you got, and what you got was a big warm smile, genuine and full of love, she had strong principles that she believed in and lived by, but was never judgmental and loved people for what they were.

She made a big impression too on the Doctors and nurses who treated her, amazing them with her strength and courage, she was always grateful for their efforts. PB wasn't one to make a fuss and was independent as much as possible to the end, but we as her CAREGivers, enjoyed looking after her, we had a "great team" as PB would say.

We all have happy memories of our time spent with PB and will hold them dear in our hearts and cherish them”.

Commenting on the award, David Moore, Managing Director said: “We use the words all the time, but we do not use them lightly: this is truly what making a difference to people’s life’s means. Matching the caregivers to the requirements of the Client and bringing them together has made a difference to everyone’s life’s”.
