We take great when selecting people to be Home Instead Care Professionals and then we train them and then we keep training them...
Here at Home Instead in St Albans we recruit from St Albans and surrounding areas such as Harpenden, Redbourn, Wheathampstead, London Colney and further afield to Garston, Radlett and Abbotts Langley. We recruit from every walk of life. We can do this because of the excellent hands-on training and competency monitoring and support we provide our recruits.
When a new Care Professional starts with us, they are invited to attend a learning and Development Programme. This lasts for 4 days and covers an Induction to Home Instead, ensuring that all staff are aware of our policy and procedures and have received a good orientation to Home Instead St Albans. We also train staff in Manual Handling, Medication Administration, Basic Life Support and all elements of Personal Care.
As well as the excellent in-house training provided during our Learning and Development course, we support our staff in the field and conduct competency assessments to ensure safety and best practices are being followed when administering medication, using equipment and delivering care to our clients. We ensure all new employees achieve the Care Certificate, which is an industry recognised qualification, and provides evidence that staff are competent to deliver support. We do this by performing a series of knowledge checks and observations. Staff are deemed to have achieved the Care Certificate when all elements of the 15 standards have been met and evidenced.
