Home Instead South Lanarkshire: Personalised, Comprehensive Care Tailored to Your Needs

Offering personalised, comprehensive care tailored to your needs, from personal care to household tasks, ensures comfort and companionship.

We tailor our services to whatever you need us to do

At Home Instead, we will support our clients and do pretty much anything they need support with. We only do a minimum of an hourly visit, but can do more and will even provide overnight care or 24 hour / 7 day / 365 day Live -in-Care. I thought I would share some of the types of support we have delivered to our clients.

Many clients require the standard type of personal care, which involves personal care, help with medication and assistance with getting up in the morning and going to bed at night. This is what many clients require; however, we do much more than this and support our elderly clients with a host of other services that other care companies won’t provide support for as it does not fit there 15 minute visit model,

We have various clients who need help with their shopping. Care professionals can help with taking clients shopping, creating a shopping list, and even going to the shops on their behalf. In cases where the client is mobile and able to go shopping independently, a member of our care team can accompany them in their vehicle so they can peruse the aisles and pick out what they want. In this instance, the client will usually pay for their own shopping. Once they get home, the care professional will put the groceries away and handle the hard lifting. Where the client is not fit enough to go the shops, our care professionals will go and pay for the shopping with cash that Home Instead gives them and we then include the shopping expenditure on the client’s monthly invoice. This is a service that we carry out for a number of our clients. Chris liked to go to the Tesco in Carluke for her shopping.

We often give clients meal preparation assistance, either by making a meal for them or by having them assist us with their meal. For clients who prefer not to dine alone and who would benefit from some companionship during meal times, our care staff will join them in enjoying a meal. Some of our clients have personalised menus that they have created with the assistance of our caring staff or with the valuable input from their loved ones. The menu offers a variety of meal options for clients to choose from each day, ensuring their preferences are met. One of our clients likes fish and chips from Valerio’s every Friday, so this is a day that is a favourite with our care professionals to support Sheana, as they also like to have fish and chips with her.

At Home Instead South Lanarkshire, we are dedicated to meeting all of our clients’ needs, whether it’s assisting with light housework, ironing, laundry, or taking care of the trash. We are more than willing to assist with any necessary repairs or basic maintenance tasks in your home, as long as they can be done safely (and aren’t too tricky!) Where it is a bit more difficult, we can arrange to get a qualified tradesman to come to the client’s house and do whatever is required when one of our care professionals is there.

We also have some care professionals whose partners are skilled in a trade or just particularly good at DIY, and we volunteer them to go and do an odd job for the clients—with our permission, of course. Here is Alan, who is the husband of one of our care professionals, fixing the washing machine.

Many of our clients do not have family members living nearby or any family contact at all. One of the reasons people reach out to us is because they often ask local social workers for recommendations. Our care professionals strive to provide a level of support that is akin to having a close family member by the client’s side. It is crucial to be present on specific dates on the calendar to ensure no one is left alone. Every Christmas, we make it a point to purchase, gather, and personally deliver Christmas dinners to clients who may not have any family to celebrate with. It’s a small gesture of kindness that brings joy and warmth to their hearts during the holiday season. We contribute to a nearby charity, and as a result, we receive the turkey, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert, which brings immense joy to our clients. In addition to providing exceptional care, we take the time to acknowledge our clients’ birthdays by sending them a heartfelt card. However, when it’s a significant milestone and they don’t have any family around, we make it a point to go above and beyond to ensure they have a memorable celebration. Sarah was 80 and had no family, so we took her to the Inn on the Loch in Lanark for her lunch.

Many of our clients spend the majority of their time at home due to various circumstances. There are individuals who lack family support and are unable to leave their homes independently. Additionally, there are those who face physical limitations that prevent them from going out on their own. Moreover, some individuals lack access to transportation options. We prioritise the well-being of our clients by ensuring they have the opportunity to engage in stimulating activities and attend important appointments. We are dedicated to ensuring our clients have a fulfilling and enjoyable time outside of their homes. Whether it’s accompanying them to appointments, taking them to social activities, or simply going for a leisurely drive or coffee, we prioritise their well-being and happiness. We also have clients who have dementia and enjoy attending nearby dementia groups. These groups often come together for enjoyable activities such as lunch, music sessions, or art classes. One of our clients liked going to his art class every Wednesday afternoon at the local dementia group and he was very good at it.

When we welcome new clients into our care, we always make a point to ask about their furry friends and what kinds of pets they have. We also inquire with our care professionals about how comfortable they are with entering homes that have animal companions. This is an important aspect of our matching process, as we work to find care professionals who are well-suited to provide support to each individual client. Our care professionals understand the importance of accommodating the client’s needs and are happy to take the dog out for a walk when necessary. We understand the importance of providing comprehensive support to our clients, which includes allowing them to have their beloved pet dog by their side. During our visits, we are more than happy to take the dog for a walk, ensuring both the client and their furry companion receive the care and attention they deserve.

Whenever Home Instead South Lanarkshire takes on a new client, we make it a priority to personally meet them and, in many cases, their family as well. We visit their residence to assess the environment where our caring and dedicated care professionals will be offering their support. We understand the importance of gathering all necessary information from the client and their family, ensuring that we have a comprehensive understanding of their needs. We aim to understand the client’s mobility, medication, support needs, daily routines, and overall get to know them well enough to develop a comprehensive care plan. The care plan will also include information about the client’s preferred activities. Some activities that may be enjoyed include solving jigsaw puzzles, preparing meals, or engaging in physical exercise. Some clients and their families value the inclusion of daily exercise as part of the recovery process following an illness or operation. This may be walking to the end of the road and back or a longer walk around a country park.
