We hosted our first ‘Live well in later Life’ event last week at the Carus Green Golf Club in Kendal and it was the first of its kind in the area! We invited lots of local organisations and support groups to show older people in our community what activities and support is available to them. We had Temple Heelis SolicitorsAge UK South Lakeland, an Occupational Therapist, Liz Atkinson, Angela Pollard Therapies and TrainingGet Active Fitness KendalWith Singing in MindDignity In Dementia, The Ronnie Garner Method (Our Shaun), South Lakes Dementia CommunityWheels for AllSight Advice South LakesLower House Sensory FarmU3a events and our Care Professional Laura, who used to be a top Chef talking about nutrition.

All of them gave great advice and there were some demonstrations……Lower House Sensory farm, which is a fantastic dementia friendly space who run gardening clubs and well-being Wednesdays brought a few of their tortoises, Jason from Active Fitness showed us some gentle chair exercises and how to help stay fit in later life.

Laura and Robert from Temple Heelis give lots of advice on writing Wills and power of attorneys and the importance of doing it early and our very own, Care Professional Laura was offering lots of nutrition advice and making smoothies, as she used to be a Chef!

Age UK South Lakeland and U3a events told us all about their huge range of classes and groups for older adults in the area and Wheels for All explained all about their specially adapted cycles that can be used for ageing adults and those with disabilities. Its inclusive cycling that’s fun, both psychically and mentally! Our Shaun and his Wife, Sheila were on hand to talk about the Ronnie Gardiner Method, which they run in Kendal.

We are already planning the next Live Well Event, which will be even bigger and better!
