Guide Dog Update: Coco Starts at Training School!

Although Coco had some health setbacks in the last few months, we are delighted to hear that she has now started at Guide Dog training school.

It’s been quite some time since our last update about Coco, the second Guide Dog which Home Instead South Lakes has been proud to sponsor. Although Coco had some health setbacks in the last few months, we are delighted to hear that she has now started at the Guide Dog training school, bringing her one step closer to becoming a fully-fledged Guide Dog!

Working together with her trainer Rose, Coco is now in the early stages of her time in training school. Many of the important skills she is now learning will form the basis for her work as a Guide Dog. For example, one new skill which Coco is learning is to touch her nose to her trainer’s fist. Eventually, these skills will teach Coco to help her owner find things such as road crossing buttons in everyday life.

Guide Dog Coco’s Next Steps

“Over the next few months,” explains Rose, “we will introduce Coco to all of the guiding skills that she will need to become a life-changing guide dog. I’m also looking forward to introducing her to her training harness, which will make Coco identifiable in public as a guide dog in training.”

We here at Home Instead South Lakes are looking forward to hearing more about Coco as her training progresses. Guide Dogs are a very important aid for many people, and we’re delighted to support dogs like Coco; after all, the role of Guide Dogs in helping people to function independently in everyday life is something which resonates closely with our own ethos at Home Instead!
