Home Instead, Ruislip and Harrow, who provide at-home care to older people in their homes, organised their very own Memory Walk on behalf of Hillingdon & Harrow Alzheimer’s Society, last weekend, (22nd September) at their office in Eastcote.
The Alzheimer’s Society holds a number of pre-organised Memory Walks across the UK but there were none that covered Eastcote. So Ginette Meade, owner of Home Instead, decided to take matters into her own hands and organised her own walk in the local area. The 4.5 mile circular route began and ended at Ferrari House and took the walkers on a scenic tour of Eastcote’s local landmarks and parks, with refreshments served at the finishing line.
Home Instead were able to raise nearly £900, which will go towards funding the vital work done by the Alzheimer’s Society to support older people, their carers and their families. As well as funding local services, which can dramatically improve the lives of those suffering from dementia, such as befriending services and dementia cafes.
Ginette commented, “As a company who specialise in providing care to older people, the Alzheimer’s Society is a charity which is extremely close to my heart. So many of our clients and their families have been affected in some way or other by dementia and as such, we are passionate about raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, as well as increasing awareness of the illness. It was the first time we’ve organised a Memory Walk ourselves and I was extremely pleased that members of the community, friends, family and colleagues, as well as my dog Daisy, were able to get involved. The glorious sunshine throughout, was just an added bonus.”
