No two recoveries are the same, which is why we shape every care plan around the individual’s unique needs and pace. One family contacted us when their mum was preparing to return home after an extended stay at Richmond Royal Hospital. Having spent weeks in bed, she felt unsteady on her feet and lacked confidence moving around the house. We matched her with a care professional trained in gentle mobility support, and together they worked on rebuilding strength day by day. Now, she’s walking independently through her home again and feeling more like herself. It’s this kind of steady, relationship-led care that turns recovery into real progress.

We know that recovery care is about more than practical tasks. That’s why our team in Richmond is driven by a shared passion to make a genuine difference. One of our care professionals recently shared, “A client of mine used to love baking but hadn’t since losing her husband. I dashed up to the shop to get some jam and cream. While she perched on a stool in the kitchen, I prepared the cake as she was instructing me. She was thrilled to have baked something again.” These personal touches are what set our home care apart, and it’s this same dedication that led one of our team to be named Home Carer of the Year in 2019; a reflection of how we always go the extra mile for those we support.
Rebuilding strength after a hospital stay doesn’t mean pressing pause on the things we enjoy doing. At Home Instead Richmond, we believe recovery includes staying connected to the community. As clients regain confidence, we love supporting them back into their local routines, whether that’s a gentle seated exercise class at Mortlake Hall, joining a singing or drawing group, or enjoying a catch-up with friends at the Coffee Corner mornings held at the Sheen Lane Centre. These inclusive activities provide more than time out of the house; they help nurture independence, boost wellbeing, and remind your loved ones that recovery isn’t just about getting back to normal but finding joy in everyday life again.

Whether your illness or injury meant you were in hospital or could stay in your own home, it can leave many people feeling drained. It is important that you don’t rush back into doing as much as you did beforehand. Extra help around the house with daily tasks can remove pressure and allow you time to recover.
Many people find that they benefit from care in their own home, allowing them to recover in a familiar environment rather than having to adjust to new surroundings.
Rehabilitation care is often only needed for a short period of time after illness or injury. If your needs change at any time, Home Instead will be there at every stage working with your clinical team to provide as much help as you need.
Similar to rehabilitation and recuperation care, reablement care is an invaluable step in getting your loved one out of hospital and back to living independently, and is better delivered at home for best results.
