Nighttime can be a vulnerable time for older adults, particularly if they have difficulty moving around safely, feel disoriented when waking, or struggle to settle without someone nearby. It’s also when families tend to worry the most, especially if their loved one lives alone. At Home Instead Richmond, we offer overnight care that provides gentle, reassuring support throughout the night, enabling older adults to rest comfortably in their own homes. As the first and only provider in the borough rated Outstanding by the CQC, and with one of our team recognised as Home Carer of the Year in 2019, families across Richmond trust us to be there during times of uncertainty, bringing peace of mind when the house is quiet and the lights go down.

We know that inviting someone into your home, especially for the night, can feel like a big step. That’s why we put as much care into building trust as we do into delivering support. At Home Instead Richmond, we take time to understand your routine, preferences, and what helps you feel most at ease before any overnight care begins. Whether it’s a sleep-in service offering reassurance that a care professional is nearby, or our waking night care for those who need regular assistance throughout the night, we’ll tailor our visits to suit you. Each care plan is delivered by someone handpicked not just for their experience, but for their ability to make you feel safe and understood as the night unfolds.
We offer two types of home care: hourly care, where we visit at set times, or live-in care, where a carer resides in the home. Both are overseen by our care management team and delivered by compassionate Care Professionals. Each care package is made up of of a unique mix services to meet your needs.

Adjusting to overnight care isn’t always easy, especially when it involves new routines or unfamiliar faces. For example, one client came to us needing waking night care to manage medication every few hours. Understandably, she felt hesitant about having someone new stay overnight in her home. To ease the transition, we began with companionship visits, where a walk through the Isabella Plantation and coffee at the café helped build trust. Over time, her care professional became a source of comfort, rather than disruption. Now, the nighttime feels less daunting, and she feels safe knowing there’s someone in the next room while she sleeps. For us, overnight care is not just about being there; it’s about having the right person there.

At Home Instead Richmond, we’re passionate about improving the lives of those we support, day and night. Our commitment to bringing the right care professional into your home goes beyond making you feel comfortable; it’s about building meaningful, trusted relationships. One client’s son recently told us his father had “developed genuine friendships with several caregivers and always looks forward to their visits.” That level of connection is what makes our overnight care feel reassuring rather than intrusive. Whether it’s simply being there through the night or waking support when needed, we believe familiarity fosters peace of mind for both clients and their families.
Our commitment to improving the wellbeing of our clients doesn’t end at bedtime or stop at the front door. We believe that great care at home should be part of a fuller, more connected life, which is why we embrace the many inclusive activities happening across Richmond. We’re proud to support Age UK Richmond, whose programmes bring something for everyone: from Time to Move fitness classes to Bridge Club at the Twickenham Wellbeing Centre, and Fish and Chips Lunches at the Whitton Social Centre. Whether it’s helping someone regain the confidence to attend a class or providing transport and company, we’ll find a way to keep your loved ones socially engaged and living life to the fullest, day and night.
