Tea gardens are a favourite with clients and Care Professionals. Pair a gentle walk with the simple pleasure of a visit to a local tea garden, and you have a perfect outing. For those who are able and keen on a bit of friendly competition, how about a round of crazy golf? It’s not only fun but a wonderful way to stimulate memories and encourage gentle exercise all under the gentle guidance of our Care Professionals. Many of our outings align with local events, we sponsor the local bowls club and often bring along our clients who can be spectators, or join in the events, engaging with the others and keeping active.
We also have to mention the weekly highlight for one of our clients – the afternoon tea dance. Our Care Professional ensures that he can go, and it’s a lovely time for music, movement, and socialising with peers, many of whom he has known for years. It’s a great way to build on the essence of companionship, allowing older adults to connect with their generation and with their Care Professional.
A trip to one of the local theatres in Christchurch for a performance is a wonderful treat. Whether it’s a shared interest in a certain play, or a celebration of a birthday, this can offer both entertainment and something to look forward to, with a sense of occasion.
The National Trust properties around us provide another space for a leisurely stroll followed by afternoon tea. With many offering accessible paths for those with less mobility, these historic settings enable older adults to enjoy the outdoors and connect with the local heritage.
