This August, Home Instead Norwich is proud to support Age UK Norwich’s Age Well Exhibition with a powerful and thought-provoking two-day experience that puts empathy and education at the heart of ageing well.

The Virtual Dementia Tour Bus

On Monday, 4th August, we’ll be bringing the Virtual Dementia Tour Bus back to The Forum, Norwich, where members of the public, local professionals, and carers are invited to step inside and experience the world through the eyes of someone living with dementia. This medically and scientifically proven training simulation gives people with healthy brains a rare opportunity to feel what dementia might be like, not just learn about it in theory.

The Virtual Dementia Tour has already transformed practice across the UK, improving understanding in 97% of participants and boosting outcomes for 100% of clients involved. Whether you’re a care professional, family member, or simply want to understand more about the ageing process, this experience is not to be missed.

Sessions run from 09:00–12:00 and 12:30–15:30, and our friendly team will be on hand to answer questions, talk about care options, and provide follow-up resources. The event is completely free and open to all. If you’re short on time, the sessions are only 15 minutes long – perfect to come along for a coffee break experience and a chat with our team.

Tuesday’s Community Talk: Spot the Signs, Start the Conversation

On Tuesday, 5th August at 10 am, we’ll be back at The Forum for a free Community Talk, hosted by our very own Emma-Jayne Wilson and Ruth Rimmington; two passionate dementia advocates and care leaders who bring both professional expertise and personal insight to the conversation.

This session is designed to empower families, friends, and community members to:

– Spot the signs: Recognise subtle changes that may indicate someone you love could benefit from a little more support.

– Start the conversation: Learn practical tips on how to speak with loved ones and family members about care, memory loss, and future planning.

– Understand care options: Hear a straightforward overview of what home care really means and how it can help people live well at home.

Attendees will also receive two helpful take-home resources: our Spot the Signs checklist and Care Conversations booklet, both designed to support families long after the event ends.

Why It Matters

With 1 in 3 people in the UK expected to die from dementia-related illness and an ageing population growing rapidly, it’s never been more important to understand the reality of living with dementia and how we can all play a part in creating a more compassionate, informed community.

At Home Instead Norwich, dementia care is not just a service we offer, it’s something we believe in wholeheartedly. That’s why we invest in City & Guilds Assured Dementia Training for all our Care Professionals, and why we’re bringing this immersive experience to Norwich again in partnership with Age UK.
