Norwich Care Professional Recognised Nationally for Transforming Lives

As one of three worthy finalists, Gail was recognised at Home Instead’s 20th anniversary celebration event for her warmth, commitment, genuine passion for care and her ability to go the extra mile to help restore dignity and a quality of life for her clients.
Gail (54) from Norfolk, came into a career in care only 4 years ago. Previously to that her career was in PR and Event Management including the role of Visitors and Publicity Officer at Norwich Cathedral. It has always been her ongoing desire to give something back to people and make a difference to the lives of others that led her to Home Instead in 2022.

Nominated for the award by her colleagues at Home Instead Norwich, Gail was praised for her natural advocacy and dedication, making her a shining example of what a Care Professional should be.
One example is when Gail supported a client whose confidence was fading, he wasn’t eating and hadn’t changed his clothes in days. Gail adjusted her availability to meet him, taking time to understand his needs, building trust with patience and empathy. Now her client, a past chef, is smiling again and enjoys his hot meal cooked by Gail.
Gail’s impact extends far beyond individual clients, with her focus on the Importance of nutrition and hydration highlighted throughout Home Instead’s dedicated training week on the topic. Gail’s Ready, Steady, Cook sessions supported Care Professionals who felt less confident with food preparation learn how to plate meals attractively and encourage clients to eat well. The success of these sessions has been so significant that elements of them are now incorporated into all new starter training.
Speaking of her success, Gail commented: “I felt really overwhelmed winning this award as I don’t do it for the recognition, I do it because I care deeply about those I care for and I want to uplift, support and strengthen our community. Last year I took over running one of our local companionship cafes which brings in some lovely regulars, I now run six in total.
“I enjoy being there, sitting beside the guests and listening to their stories, giving my undivided attention so that they feel seen and heard, it’s so important”.
Home Instead Norwich’s On-Call Supervisor Ashleigh Rogerson commented: I phoned Gail to support with a client with advanced dementia, not realising it was her birthday. Because Gail cared deeply for the client, she agreed immediately, wanting to avoid the distress a new person might cause. In typical Gail fashion, on the way, she bought a cake so they could celebrate together. She made the visit joyful for her client, despite it being her own special day”.
Chris Carter, owner of Home Instead Norwich said: “I’m incredibly proud to see Gail achieve this award; her genuine empathy and warmth make her stand out. Gail is not just deserving of this award – she defines it.”
