Home Instead Norwich’s Franchise Owner Completes Manchester Marathon 2026

This weekend, Home Instead Norwich’s Franchise Owner, Chris Carter, took on the Manchester Marathon to raise funds for Home Instead Charities. The grass roots organisation strives to end loneliness and isolation in ageing adults by bringing joy and connection through a sense of community. And we couldn’t be prouder of Chris’ completion of the 2026 Manchester Marathon to highlight the charity’s great work.
What Motivated Chris To Run For Home Instead Charities
This wasn’t Chris’s first time running a marathon for charity, having previously run the London Marathon in support of the charity, Age UK. However, whilst he’s no stranger to the challenge of completing the 26.2 miles, this was his first time representing Home Instead under marathon conditions.
Before the marathon had even begun, Chris had managed to raise £800 (and still counting), so the race was certainly off to a brilliant start! And by the time he finished the run, he had also managed to achieve a personal best completing the run in 3 hours and 23 minutes.
But what really motivated Chris to fundraise for Home Instead Charities was the opportunity to support ageing adults across the community. And ironically, during this race the support was reciprocated, Chris told us:
“About halfway through the run, I noticed a group of people from a nursing home lined up along the pavement in their wheelchairs loudly encouraging us around the course. It felt incredible in that moment to see those who I was supporting having made the choice to come out and support those running, albeit for lots of difference causes across the participants. It was a great feeling at a point in the race when a little extra motivation was most welcomed!”.

How Home Instead Charities Help Communities
Home Instead Charities is a dedicated organisation connected to the wider Home Instead family. Everything the charity does is focused on one simple but powerful goal: bringing joy, connection and community to older adults who might otherwise feel isolated.
At the heart of Home Instead Charities is the ethos of supporting small, grassroots community groups who are already doing amazing things for older people in their local area. To build on this, through the Home Instead Charities’ grants programme, local organisations can apply for between £500 and £2,000 to fund various kinds of activities such as:
– Taking ageing adults to tea dances
– Organising a trip to the seaside
– Supporting small local dementia groups
– Running companionship cafés
– Organising community get-togethers
The Bigger Picture
For many older people, these outings aren’t just a nice day out; they’re often a lifeline. A chance to have fun, connect and feel part of something bigger, especially for those living in isolation.
Home Instead Charities’ network of supporters across the UK regularly fundraise to bring joy to ageing adults. Together, we’ve already raised over £410,000 and touched the lives of more than 50,000 isolated older adults across the UK. And Chris’ marathon sponsorship has certainly added funds to that total.
