Home care company’s workshops boost community’s understanding of dementia

Local home care company, Home Instead Norwich, is delivering free dementia workshops for families affected by dementia.

Local home care company, Home Instead Norwich, is delivering free dementia workshops for families affected by dementia, as well as organisations that come into contact with ageing adults, in a bid to arm people with key knowledge and skills on the condition.

Dementia affects over 900,000 people in the UK. Home Instead Norwich supports older people in their own homes, many of which live with dementia, and sees families keen to learn how they can help. Its free workshops will cover a range of topics, including understanding dementia, communication, and managing behaviour.

Home Instead is keen to spread the word to organisations in the area that host ageing adults, having delivered workshops to Norwich Airport, volunteers of Age UK Norwich, and Clapham and Collinge Solicitors, to make employees more aware of how they can support people living with dementia.

The company’s most recent dementia talk was arranged with The Boundary, a dementia friendly pub in the local area. The pub hosts monthly events for people with dementia, including support groups and karaoke nights.

Commenting on the workshops, owner of Home Instead Norwich, Chris Carter, said, “You can never know too much about dementia! Our workshops have already made such a difference and opened people’s eyes to a condition that affects countless families. We’re keen to deliver workshops to organisations across the area too, helping them understand how to communicate with customers living with dementia, and create a supportive environment for them.

“Our next workshop is at Clapham and Collinge Solicitors in Norwich on the 20th June. We welcome anyone to come along and find out more.”

These workshops are part of Home Instead’s commitment to providing quality home care services to those in need. The company has a team of highly trained and experienced care professionals who provide compassionate and personalised care to clients in the local area.
