This month, we celebrated Care Professional Alison’s 10-year anniversary with our team, reflecting on her decade long journey in care and the difference she has made.
When Alison joined us 10 years ago, she was stepping into a completely new career. After 27 years working at a well-known supermarket, her interview with Franchise Owner Chris was her first in almost three decades. Alison recalled how nervous she felt that day, but also how Chris quickly put her at ease and it wasn’t long before she became part of the team. That moment marked the beginning of a journey that has touched the lives of hundreds of people in and around Norwich.
In the early days, care work felt daunting. Meeting new clients and stepping into unfamiliar homes took courage, but soon Alison realised that much of what she was doing was simply an extension of the care and support she had always given at home. Her confidence grew, and with it her love for the role.
Alison’s advice to new Care Professionals is simple but powerful:
“Treat clients like an elderly relative – with respect, dignity, and equality.”
She reminds us that many older people don’t see themselves as old. They want to be treated as equals, not in a childlike way. It’s this philosophy that has made Alison such a trusted and much-loved Care Professional.
A loves learning about her clients’ lives through old photographs and treasured stories. One memory that stands out is of a client who narrowly missed being bombed three times during the war, once being blown off a bicycle and another time out of a house in London.
Another memory that always makes her smile is of a spirited 90-year-old client who tried to encourage her to wolf whistle at handsome workmen passing by!
Over the years, Alison has likely supported more than 200 clients. Each one has left a lasting impression, and together they have shaped her career in care.
The move from retail to care has proved to be a superb career choice for Alison – and for all of us who have had the privilege of working alongside her. Her dedication, warmth, and professionalism have enriched not only the lives of her clients but also our entire team.
We are so proud to celebrate Care Professional Alison’s 10-year anniversary and grateful for her commitment to caring for older people across Norwich and the wider community.
Here’s to the next chapter of her journey in care.
