Celebrating Mrs N’s 100th Birthday
Home Instead Norwich celebrates Mrs N’s 100th birthday and the genuine relationships built through familiar, thoughtful care at home.

There are not many opportunities to celebrate a 100th birthday, so it was a very special occasion for everyone who knows Mrs N when she recently reached this remarkable milestone.
Surrounded by family, friends and members of her care team, Mrs N enjoyed a wonderful celebration marking a century of life, memories and experiences. Seeing her smile throughout her birthday celebration was a reminder of just how much she means to the people around her.
Mrs N has been receiving support from Home Instead Norwich since 2023 and, over that time, her Care Professionals have built genuine relationships with her. They have come to know not only the support she needs but also the things she enjoys most, from listening to Classic FM and completing word searches to looking at photographs, reading the Radio Times and sharing stories from her life.
The joy of familiar company
What stands out most about Mrs N is the way she continues to take pleasure in the world around her. She enjoys familiar company, gentle conversation and moments that allow her to stay connected with the things she loves.
One of her Care Professionals, Alison, often takes her out for drives.
“My fond memory is taking Mrs N out for a drive as she loves looking at the trees and colourful flowers whilst listening to Classic FM. Mrs N is always happy to see me and is so enthusiastic when I show her pictures on my phone of scenery, nature and places of interest.”
These outings have become meaningful moments of companionship. For Mrs N, they are a chance to enjoy the changing seasons, notice the details of the countryside and spend time with someone who knows what brings her joy.

Countryside drives and shared memories
For another of Mrs N’s Care Professionals, Gill, some of the most memorable moments have come during their countryside outings together.
“Mrs N enjoyed looking at the trees, fields and wildflowers. She said how beautiful everything was. She asked if we could stop for a little while so she could look at the view. We did, and on our return home, she thanked me for a lovely afternoon.”
It is often these simple, unhurried moments that stay with people. A drive through the countryside, a shared view, a conversation sparked by nature or memory and each one has helped Mrs N’s Care Professionals get to know her more deeply.
Quiet moments that matter
The quieter moments are often just as special. Earlier this year, Gill and Mrs N watched snowfall through the patio doors, which prompted Mrs N to talk about seeing snow for the first time as a child growing up in South Africa.
Gill said:
“I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend with Mrs N. We talk often of her life and travels. She inspires me to go out and see as much of the world as possible. We also spend time doing word search puzzles, too, in her words, ‘to keep our minds active’. We have lots of laughs, as sometimes we both have trouble finding the words.”
These are the moments that have helped Mrs N’s Care Professionals get to know her: her curiosity, her love of nature, the stories she shares from her life, and her determination to keep her mind active.
A very special milestone
Reaching 100 is an extraordinary achievement, and it was a privilege for everyone at Home Instead Norwich to celebrate with Mrs N. Her birthday was not only a celebration of a remarkable milestone, but also of the relationships, memories and everyday moments that mean so much to those who know and care for her.
Happy 100th Birthday, Mrs N. We hope you enjoyed every moment of your special day.
