Earlham Park is a lovely little enclave of countryside in Norwich that is nestled between the university and hospital and runs alongside the River Yare. A lovely open space with some natural woodland, Earlham Park also houses Earlham Hall, a large 16th century house that was used as a hospital during World War Two and is now occupied by the University of East Anglia (UEA).
Earlham Park has a vintage café which welcomes everyone, dogs included!
The park is wheelchair accessible throughout, it is at street level on both sides of the road with wide access separated by bollards. The park is mainly grass covered with some walkways paved.
Nearest parking is at the UEA pay & display car park. Disabled spaces are available for blue badge holders.
Catton Park in Old Catton is a 70-acre country park on the northern outskirts of Norwich and is often the location of the Home Instead Norwich Running Group.
Described by some as an oasis of calm, Catton Park has a wildflower meadow and woodlands that have many interesting trees including a large fallen oak tree that is an attraction for young children, as well as sculptures, and there is also a sculpture trail that is popular with families. You can wander through the open wildflower meadow or explore the woodland with its many interesting trees. There are footpaths through the woods and across the park; most of which are wheelchair accessible and there is also a disabled toilet.
Catton Park has several different entrances and although there is no car park, it is possible to park on Oak Lane or Spixworth Road where there are entrances to the park.
In the centre of Norwich is Chapelfield Gardens, a vast green space in which to spend some time away from the busy shopping centre. It is an ideal location for a sit down to watch the world go by with a family member of elderly companion, Chapelfield Gardens offers a children’s play area, café and is fully wheelchair accessible.
A popular location, particularly in the summer months, when there is outdoor entertainment and family fun weekends, Chapelfield Gardens is a focal point of city life when you are looking for a little tranquillity to break up the day.
The nearest accessible toilets are at The Forum on Millennium Plain, a 5-minute walk away.
Eaton Park is a beautiful 80-acre park on South Park Avenue and is home to a formal rose garden and a lily pond. With tree-lined avenues, there is also a bandstand surrounded by four pavilions, known as the Rotunda in the centre of the park. The Eaton Park café is based here with changing rooms and toilets. During the summer months, the bandstand is the location of concerts and other events.
There is plenty of activities for families, with a skatepark, outdoor table tennis, 5-a-side football, pitch and putt, a model boat pond and miniature railway. It’s a great place to take young and the elderly alike.
Another location for the Home Instead Running Group, Eaton Park also hosts regular park runs.
There are toilets located in the central pavilion which also has a RADAR key operated accessible WC.
Eaton Park has two small free of charge parking areas.
Situated to the north of Norwich is Waterloo Park. Open throughout the year, there is a car park situated on Angel Road. Waterloo Park is lined with trees and flower borders as well as housing a pavilion, bandstand, and colonnades.
Great for young children, Waterloo Park has a Splash Pad and children’s play area.
The park is disabled friendly and includes a RADAR key accessible toilet located to the side of the main pavilion. The pavilion also houses a café serving tempting homemade food with vegan and vegetarian options.
