A Fond Farewell to Care Professional Ray

Last Friday marked a special moment at Home Instead Norwich as we gathered to celebrate the retirement of one of our most dedicated and much-loved Care Professionals, Ray.

Celebrating 12 Years of Care

From Joinery to Caregiving

Ray joined Home Instead Norwich in 2013, following a long career as a joiner, fitting kitchens and bathrooms in homes and care settings.  After retiring from the trade, Ray quickly realised he wasn’t ready to stop working altogether.  With a desire to give back and stay active, he took a leap into something completely new – care.

Despite having no prior experience in the sector, Ray embraced the role wholeheartedly.  After receiving full training and support from the Home Instead team, he quickly became a natural – building strong bonds with both clients and colleagues alike.  Ray’s warmth, reliability, and humour made him a favourite with many clients, some of whom have been with him for several years.

A Trusted Companion and Friend

As Ray shared, “These have been the happiest 12 years of my working life. I only wish I’d started sooner! In all that time, I’ve met some lovely people and build fabulous relationships with both clients and colleagues!”

His impact on clients has been clear. Mr D, who shares a love of sport with Ray, said, “We’ve had lots of good chats, especially about football and sport. We’ve built a great bond over the years.”

Mr A, who made the special trip to the office to say goodbye in person, said, “Ray is a truly lovely gentleman. I’ve really enjoyed his visits—I’d give him 20 out of 20 if I could!”

Mrs N also praised Ray’s care and companionship: “Ray is absolutely excellent. I get on very well with him! We go for walks and have such nice chats—it’s always lovely to see him.”

Ray’s farewell celebration brought together the office team, several fellow Care Professionals (including one who’s known Ray for over a decade), and his client Mr A.  There were plenty of laughs, a few tears – especially from our Operations Manager, Emma-Jayne, who has worked alongside Ray since her own days as a Care Professional – and lots of shared memories.

Words of Wisdom

Ray leaves behind a legacy of kindness, consistency, and genuine care. His advice to anyone considering a role in care is simple:

“Stick with it – give it a few weeks. You’ll soon know if it’s for you when you’ve been here for 12 years!”

Thank You Ray

From all of us at Home Instead Norwich, thank you, Ray, for your years of dedication, your compassion, and the difference you’ve made in so many lives.  We wish you a happy, healthy, and very well-deserved retirement.
