Scotswood Community Garden in Newcastle host many groups and activities for those aged 55+!
Scotswood Community Garden is a charity in Newcastle supporting our local people, whilst providing a home for wildlife in the heart of the city. Established in 1995, the site hosts many habitats and various plants and wildlife, including ponds, a forest garden and meadows.
The garden hold many groups and activities for all ages, including adults and those aged 55+.
Elderberries
The Elderberries are a group of adults aged 55+ who enjoy getting outside and gardening in a social setting.
The group host a weekly drop-in gentle gardening session where they undertake conservation and horticulture tasks, including growing vegetables and maintaining wildlife habitats. There is extra support, adapted tools and adapted tasks available for anyone who needs it and you are welcome to come along with a carer or friend.

Free, therapeutic sessions for people living with dementia and the people that take care of them are held in the gardens beautiful accessible gardening space. Providing a safe place for participants to build strong social connections and have a voice about the activities that they want to be involved in.
From April the sessions are held every week, so go on a visit and get your hands dirty, enjoy cups of tea outside, watch the wildlife and help to make the accessible garden thrive!
