Our First Dementia Awareness Event: Community, Compassion & Conversation

Last week, we proudly hosted our very first Dementia Awareness Event at Christ the Vine Community Church in Coffee Hall, Milton Keynes

Last week, we proudly hosted our very first Dementia Awareness Event at Christ the Vine Community Church in Coffee Hall, Milton Keynes — a heartwarming and insightful gathering dedicated to sharing knowledge, support, and lived experiences around dementia.

This event was a true collaboration, and we want to thank everyone who made it possible: our team at Home Instead Milton Keynes, Adult Social Care Milton Keynes Council, and the incredible Admiral Nurses. Together, we delivered an informative and supportive session for families, carers, professionals, and anyone touched by dementia.

Our Home Instead training team opened with an engaging overview of what dementia is, followed by valuable contributions from Adult Social Care and Admiral Nurses, who shared practical information, resources, and services available in Milton Keynes. A thoughtful Q&A and time for private conversations ensured that every voice was heard.

We are especially grateful to our amazing clients, Ian and Sarah, who bravely shared their personal journeys with dementia. Their stories brought to life the emotional realities behind the condition — from early symptoms and family impact to daily coping and the importance of local community support. Their honesty and strength left a lasting impact on us all.

At Home Instead Milton Keynes, we believe that understanding leads to empathy, and empathy leads to better care. We hope this event offered attendees not only new insights into dementia and early diagnosis but also a renewed sense of connection and hope.

This is just the beginning — we’re committed to continuing these conversations and building a dementia-friendly community together.
