Love to Move: Empowering Lives Through Seated Gymnastics for Dementia and Ageing Adults

Home Instead Milton Keynes offering Free Love to Move Sessions

In collaboration with the British Gymnastics Foundation, Home Instead Milton Keynes are holding free “Love to Move,” sessions, a seated gymnastics program that is making a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with dementia and ageing adults. This age and dementia-friendly initiative has been recognised by Age UK for its positive impact on physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of ageing individuals.

The Love to Move Program: A Gateway to Empowerment

The Love to Move Programme is a dynamic age and dementia-friendly seated gymnastics initiative that has taken the world by storm. Recognised by Age UK for its “demonstrable benefits in the physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of older people,” this program offers a fresh perspective on embracing life’s challenges and reclaiming independence.

At its core, Love to Move is based on the concept of bilaterally asymmetrical movement, which involves performing different movements with the right and left sides of the body simultaneously. This unique approach sparks a symphony of neural connections in the brain, resulting in a remarkable increase in cognitive ability.

Empowering Lives with Cognitive Enhancements

For individuals living with dementia, the Love to Move program is more than just a series of exercises; it is an avenue to reclaim their essence and vitality. Research has shown that participating in Love to Move sessions leads to increased capacity in processing everyday tasks such as feeding themselves, engaging in crafts, playing games like bingo, and, most importantly, enriching their social connections with friends and family.

The cognitive enhancements brought about by Love to Move are a testament to the brain’s resilience and ability to form new connections even in the face of cognitive challenges. As the brain adapts to the bilaterally asymmetrical movements, individuals experience tangible improvements in their mental acuity and emotional well-being.

Uniting Our Community: Love to Move in Milton Keynes

In the heart of Milton Keynes, Home Instead is igniting positive change within the community. Every first Thursday of the month at 11 am, Home Instead Milton Keynes hosts a free Love to Move session at their office. This initiative invites ageing adults from Buckingham to Olney and anywhere in Milton Keynes  to partake in this life-enriching experience.

Through the Love to Move sessions, Home Instead Milton Keynes is promoting a community that values its ageing population and empowers them to lead fulfilling lives. These sessions serve as a safe and inclusive space where individuals can strengthen their bodies, minds, and friendships.

A Ripple Effect of Love and Empowerment

The impact of Love to Move stretches far beyond the confines of a single program. As participants experience the joy of reclaiming their independence and cognitive abilities, the ripple effect extends to their families, caregivers, and the entire community. Love to Move ignites hope and understanding, encouraging a culture of empathy and compassion.
