Discover how Home Instead Mid Cornwall is expanding premium home care across Mid Cornwall, supporting clients and recruiting talented Care Professionals.

Over the past year, Home Instead Mid Cornwall has continued to grow strongly — and we’re proud of what this means for older adults and families across our area.
In the last 12 months, we’ve increased the number of hours of care we deliver by 30%. In October alone, our team provided 1,800 hours of premium home care across St Austell, Bodmin, Wadebridge, Padstow, Fowey and Lostwithiel.
Our client numbers have risen from just over 30 to 53, and our Care Professional team has grown from 25 to 34 dedicated, relationship-focused individuals.
In early November, our National Office conducted a PEAQ survey with both Clients and Staff, and we’re excited to receive the results soon. Locally, our Mid Cornwall office has also run an internal survey to explore how we can further enhance the role of Care Professionals in 2026.
Our team had some fun taking part in a Tombola, with prizes in our new Home Instead colours! Bronze prizes included fluffy socks and chocolates, while our lucky silver winners received Amazon vouchers.
The demand for high-quality, person-centred home care in Mid Cornwall continues to grow. To meet this need, we are actively recruiting Care Professionals and aim to welcome one to three new team members each month.
Our low staff turnover demonstrates that our commitment to professionalising home care in Cornwall is making a real difference. While there is always more to do, we know that supporting our Care Professionals is key to delivering outstanding home care to the people who rely on us.
We’ve introduced Magic Notes, an AI-assisted tool that helps produce accurate notes from Care Consultations, meetings and interviews. Soon, we hope to add AI-assisted auditing to review care notes and medication charts.
These tools help us maintain quality and compliance while reducing administrative tasks, giving our team more time for what matters most: building meaningful relationships with clients.

At Home Instead Mid Cornwall, our mission goes beyond home care — it’s about helping create healthier, connected communities where people of all ages can thrive.
We were delighted to sponsor a new bench at the Squires Field Community Centre in Fowey, part of a project to improve the area and increase its value for the local community.
From talks by dementia researchers such as Dr Banerjee, we’ve learned that practical everyday actions — social interaction, gentle exercise, and spending time outdoors — can reduce the risk of dementia or slow its progression.
The Squires Field improvements encourage these activities, benefiting the community now and for generations to come.
Another project we proudly sponsored was the croquet during the Binic–Étables and Fowey Twinning event in May. Croquet ticks many of the boxes for living well as we age: outdoor activity, social interaction, gentle movement and fun.
We can’t promise the scones with jam and clotted cream were part of a healthy diet — but they were delicious!

This Autumn, we have been delighted to start supporting Parkinson’s UK Cornwall with their local Support Café in St Austell. Nick Wilder and his wife Jan have run the café for many years, providing a welcoming space for people with Parkinson’s to connect. The café features informative talks, singers, gentle exercise, activities, and lunch, and we’re thrilled to help keep this vital resource running.
We originally planned to open a memory café locally just before COVID, but that was delayed. Now, the time is right to get involved. We’ll continue with the café as it is and hope to expand in the future if attendees wish. Rhiannon, our Training Coordinator, began leading this initiative in November, and on December 10th, we’re looking forward to the local singer Rachel Best joining the café.
From our own clients’ experiences, we know how vital these local resources are — especially when NHS and care budgets are under pressure. Supporting them is a natural extension of what Home Instead Mid Cornwall stands for.

For Destinations Day, it was great to talk to students at Callywith College about the future world of work and careers in social care. We shared why care work is so rewarding: you build real relationships, help older people stay independent at home, and finish each day knowing you’ve made a difference. Social care jobs are also AI-proof — empathy can’t be automated. Cornwall is ageing fast and there are fewer working-age people to meet rising need, so opportunities are growing. At Home Instead Cornwall, some thrive as frontline caregivers, others progress to Senior Caregiver, and for those who want it there are routes into Care Coordinator and Care Manager roles. There are also careers in recruitment, marketing and operations. Care is a truly portable career — roles exist across the UK and abroad as people live longer and families are smaller. It’s also flexible: you can pause care work for study or life changes, then return later with skills that are always in demand.
We’re incredibly grateful to our clients, families, Care Professionals, and the wider community for being part of our journey.
As we continue to grow our services and deepen our community involvement, our priorities remain the same: people, relationships, and making life better for older adults across Mid Cornwall.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to be putting together an A5 “What’s On / Where” guide to activities and groups for older people in Mid Cornwall, due for publication early in 2026. If you run a local activity or group and would like to be included, please get in touch!
We’ll also be recruiting for our Care Professional team, so if you’re interested in joining a supportive, professional care environment, we’d love to hear from you. And if you or a loved one are looking for home care, please get in touch — we’d be happy to discuss how we can help.
