If you’ve been wondering what to do next work-wise, you might be surprised at how much you’d enjoy home care in Lancaster. At Home Instead, we support older people across the city – from Bulk and Bowerham to Morecambe, and the villages heading out toward Caton. The aim is simple: help our clients stay comfy and independent in the homes they know, while you fill a role that’s flexible, friendly, and genuinely meaningful.

It’s the kind of job that fits around family life, study hours, or other part-time work without feeling overwhelming.

Why People Enjoy This Kind of Work

Most people who join us say the same thing: it’s the little moments that make the job feel worthwhile. You might be helping someone ease into their morning, cooking a quick lunch together, or sitting down for a natter about whatever’s going on in town. On another day, you could be heading out for a gentle walk or supporting someone to keep up with hobbies they’ve enjoyed for years.

You don’t need a care background to excel in this role – we’ve welcomed people from diverse backgrounds, including those who have worked in cafés, shops, schools, and offices. What really helps is being steady, kind, and happy to show up for someone who needs a bit of support.

What You’ll Get When You Join Home Instead Lancaster

We 100% support every Care Professional who joins the Home Instead team. That means you can enjoy some great advantages, including:

– Proper (and paid) training, which begins before you start working and continues thereafter.

– A job that connects you to your community (whether that be in Borwick, Arnside…), not one that keeps you stuck behind a desk.

– Shifts that work for us and you – we’ll work with you to build a schedule that suits your life.

– Chances to move up, whether that’s senior-level care, training others, or office roles.

– Minimum one-hour visits, so you have time to settle in and not rush.

– A team in the Lancaster office that’s always ready to support you.

How We Support You From Day One

Starting something new can feel like a big step, so we make sure you don’t have to figure things out alone. We begin with an induction that covers the basics, then you’ll shadow experienced Care Professionals so you can see how everything works in real visits. There’s no pressure to rush, as we want you to feel comfortable.

We are also committed to ongoing learning, including our City & Guilds-assured Dementia Care Programme, which is really helpful if you’re supporting clients living with dementia. As you gain experience, you’ll see we have plenty of room to grow into other roles, such as senior caregivers, administrative teams, and more.

Getting Out and About With Clients

One of the nicest parts of working in home care is getting to spend time with people in the places they love. That means no two days are ever the same. For example, a client might ask you to take them to the Lancaster Charter Market to pick up a few bits and bops; or go out for a coffee near the Millennium Bridge; or just settle down in Williamson Park while people-watching and getting some fresh air.

It’s these simple outings that help our clients keep up with the routines and places that matter to them – and in return, you get to build a relaxed, friendly connection along the way.
