At Home Instead, we offer comprehensive stoma care training to equip our Care Professionals with the skills needed to support individuals with a stoma confidently. Our training includes recognising signs of abnormalities, such as swelling or unusual discharge, to help prevent discomfort. Care Pros receive detailed, step-by-step guidance on hygienic stoma care, including proper handling techniques for various types of stomas, such as colostomies, ileostomies, and urostomies.
We also emphasise how to identify and address common issues like skin irritation and leakage, while ensuring accurate documentation to track the stoma’s condition. Our Care Pros participate in a 1-hour hands-on session led by our Home Instead Trainer, Sarah. In addition to e-learning, they must also pass an in-person practical competency check to demonstrate their proficiency in stoma care. These competencies are reviewed annually to keep their skills up to date.
