Maxine's Story

How did you hear about Home Instead?

“I was looking at various jobs online and saw this advertised on Indeed.”

What prompted you to apply for the role?

“I asked my friends if they’d heard of Home Instead, and one had used them. They said they were second to none, I thought that was a great recommendation.”

What were you doing before joining Home Instead?

“I was a pharmacy assistant.”

What do you like to do in your spare time and are you able to bring that into your role?

“I thoroughly enjoy my hobbies. I’m a great believer in keeping fit and Pilates certainly does that. I’m also a member of a local community choir (Pop Chorus) we sing in care homes, shops, churches, and many other venues. I think this brings out a positive attitude and always plenty to chat about.”

What do you enjoy most about the role?

“There’s a real sense of job satisfaction because you’ve taken care of someone’s needs.”

What do you think the benefits are of the hourly care role for both you and the client?

“It’s great building up a friendship with a client and hearing their own stories.”

What activities, if any, do you do with your clients?

“I especially enjoy drawing and painting with clients to engage them in activities. It’s also lovely to help build up confidence in a client so they’re happy to come out shopping and have a coffee.”

What would you say to anyone who is thinking about a role in care?

“I’d recommend that if you’re interested in doing this type of work then give it a try!”
