October 1st marks International Day of Older People , and this year, the theme is: “The part we play: Celebrating the integral role of older people in our communities”
At Home Instead, we see the impact our clients have every day and just how big a role our clients play in their communities. The wonderful stories are not only inspiring, but reminds us of how much we owe to the older generations.
A great story comes from Joy, who at 18, joined the Women’s Land Army during World War II, and worked in the farms in Kempston. Joy recently celebrated her 100th birthday and her life is an incredible reminder of how much older generations have done for us. Joy played a big role during the war, and today, she continues to play a role in her family and community. Read more about Joy’s story here.
Another client, Mr Tom, served in the military and continues to stay engaged with his community and family, sharing stories of his service and staying active in his daily life. Through live-in care with Home Instead, Mr Tom has been able to maintain his independence and continue living in the home he loves. You can read more about his life here. His story is a reminder of the importance of giving older people the support they need to stay connected and live life on their terms.
At Home Instead, we’re proud to play our part in helping older people remain active and engaged. Through some of our services, like live-in care and companionship, we support our clients in continuing to play their important role in their families and communities.
So today, let’s celebrate our older generations, and the role we all can play in helping them remain valued, independent and connected.
