Give your elderly loved ones or senior friends a true taste of the town next time you’re out for a midday meal with these great lunch spots in and around Huntingdon.

If the past couple of years has taught us anything, it’s that social isolation is very difficult. Two years of being stuck at home has left many parts of our communities more cut off and alone than ever before. Social interaction and light exercise are crucial for our mental and physical health and it’s crucial to remain connected; especially to our older loved ones whom we often take for granted.

To help you get out and about with elderly relatives or friends, why not take them out for a spot of lunch at one of these choices around Huntingdon?

The George – Spaldwick

The George is a beautiful restaurant and bar in Spaldwick, just outside of Huntingdon. Dating back to 1679, the former coaching Inn lends itself to the modern restaurant and public house we see today. The George has retained its rustic charm and character from the coach Inn, but has a few modern day comforts mixed in. They have an extensive bar snacks and restaurant menu offering a range of dishes, all of which are made fresh to order from local produce. The George’s barn restaurant provides a rustic and traditional interior along with a tasty menu to suit all. Separate to the restaurant they have a bar area that describes itself as a ‘more casual and informal dining experience’, and in the summer months there are options for al fresco dining. A few members of our team have noted The George’s beautiful dining area, but also the wonderful service they received and most importantly – a brilliant meal. For these reasons, The George in Spaldwick is one of our top recommendations for the area.

The Diner – Huntingdon Wickes Car Park

If you are in a little bit of a rush and fancy some food on the go, we think the burger van outside Wickes is the best place for you to stop. Our office team often pop down to go and collect a few burgers or hot dogs and have been incredibly satisfied every single time. It’s a cheap and cheerful option, although they do not have any seating, so this spot is best for lunch whilst you’re on the move. Their menu is pinned on their Instagram page @thedinerwickes, and their contact details can be found there too in case you’d like to order in advance.

The Black Bull – Brampton

The Black Bull is a 16th century traditional village pub in Brampton. Best known for their freshly cooked meals, this friendly pub offers a beer garden, events throughout the year and very tasty, traditional British meals. Our staff ventured out to dine at the Black Bull in Brampton and we had a great experience. They ticked all of our boxes with their tasty food, fast and friendly service and scenic gardens that are perfect for a pub lunch. Their menu offers many traditional British dishes and have some options available for alternate dietary requirements. The Black Bull is a great place to make a pit stop for lunch, and if you’re looking for a good Sunday Roast spot, we cannot recommend this Pub/Restaurant enough.

Jiggers at Johnsons Farm in Old Hurst

If you’ve been keeping up with our previous blogs, you’ll know that we’ve mentioned Jiggers Steak House once before and we just couldn’t resist doing it again. Located at Johnsons Farm in Old Hurst, Jiggers Steakhouse is an absolutely brilliant spot for lunch. With the restaurant being on the farm it often gets busy, especially around lunch time, so we recommend booking a table in advance to avoid disappointment. They offer an extensive lunch menu with very reasonable prices and have many other activities available on the farm should you wish to extend your visit. The Eccentric Englishman Café on the farm, also mentioned in our first blog, could be an alternate lunch spot if you fancy something a lighter bite, while Jiggers would be better for a hearty cooked meal. Either one of these spots is an absolute must-try!

Poppy’s Vintage Tea Room

Poppy’s Vintage Tea Room in St Neots is a slightly different type of lunch spot, this location would be best for a light lunch bite and perhaps an afternoon tea. Whilst it’s very different to our other recommendations, the Tea Room is a truly wonderful place to stop and have a bite to eat. It’s a bit of hidden gem in St Neots as it’s tucked away between the High Street and St Mary’s Church. Poppy’s offers a wide selection of teas and coffees, homemade cakes and scones and Poppy’s well known afternoon tea. They have a wide selection of gluten free options and offer both indoor and al fresco dining.
