Thirsk Organisations Serve Up Christmas Dinner

A complimentary Christmas dinner with all the trimmings was served recently to the older residents of East Thirsk at East Thirsk Community Hall. Local community groups and organisation including  East Thirsk Community Association,  Northallerton and District Round Table, Home instead Senior Care and the Thirsk Tea Dance Group all teamed together to provide a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, including Christmas pudding to 70 older residents of East Thirsk.

The annual dinner provides company and good food to older people who often feel isolated and lonely at this time of year. Cynthia Hesmondhalgh, Chair of East Thirsk Community Association and Mayor of Thirsk commented; “The Christmas meal is a fantastic opportunity for those who often feel lonely and isolated at this time of year to get out of the house, meet other people and enjoy a delicious hot meal. I would like to thank everyone who helped at the event, including all the volunteers who took time out of their weekend to help make the event such a success.”

The Northallerton and District Round Table helped fund the food which was supplied by Johnson’s of Thirsk and Home Instead kindly provided the wine and sherry and helped at the event. The Royal British Legion Band played Christmas carols during the meal and after the meal the Tea Dance Group took to the floor and entertained the diners with dancing.  There was no charge for the event but each guest brought a raffle prize which helped raise further funds.

Cynthia Hesmondhalgh added;”The meal was a great success again and the committee of East Thirsk Community Association are looking forward to planning next year’s.”
