The team at Home Instead have been busy this week delivering mince pies to their clients in and around the towns of Harrogate, Ripon, and Thirsk. The personal touch is paramount to Home Instead, so the Home Instead Caregivers have been hand delivering the mince pies and spending more quality time with their clients over Christmas and New Year.
Home Instead believe that care for the elderly should not be rushed and impersonal, but that time should be taken to get to know the person well and ensure that all their needs are met including social needs as well as health and well being. Home Instead visits are no less than one hour, which allows time for the client to receive the right care and support, including companionship. Home Instead carefully pick people to join their team who are not only caring and compassionate but who are genuinely interested in getting to know their client and spending quality time with them.
Sheena Van Parys, co-owner of Home Instead, commented; ‘Unfortunately, with families not living on the doorstep anymore, many older people are on their own, especially now at Christmas, so it’s important that we go the extra mile to make sure our clients get to see a friendly familiar face on a regular basis, someone that they can chat with, who will be interested in what they have to say and overall to have some fun. Here at Home Instead we feel it is important that our Clients and Caregivers are well matched, often there is a connection, whether sharing a farming background or playing musical instruments and loving music, which helps build the relationship and provide companionship that is effective.’
