Local home care company, Home Instead based in Thirsk, recently hosted a music quiz for those involved with the Thirsk and Sowerby Community Care Association's befriending project. The project helps people who are rurally and/or socially isolated, living on their own, have no close family in the area, have difficulties getting out of the house or for example have suffered bereavement. The project which is funded by North Yorkshire County Council enables the group to get together once a month for an outing or an activity.
The team from Home Instead were invited to this monthly event to play the golden oldies including songs from artists such as Vera Lynn, Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller. The 20 guests had to name the tune and artist plus a bonus question about the artist in question. Prizes were handed out at the end to the winning teams.
After the quiz, afternoon tea was served and everyone had a good natter over tea and coffee with sandwiches and cake.
Sheena Van Parys, owner of Home Instead commented; ‘It was a fun afternoon with everyone enjoying the music and it is a great way to reminisce and bring back memories for us all. Thirsk and Sowerby Community Care Association and their volunteers do such great work with the befriending project to help alleviate loneliness and isolation in the local community, so it was nice to support the event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.’
