Home Instead's Taster Day Was A Great Success

Home Instead of Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk held their first ever 'Taster Day' as they look to add more CAREGivers to their team.

The local branch of the company, who care for the elderly in their own homes across the UK, welcomed those looking to become CAREGivers to tell them more about the service they provide.

The day involved an interview with Anne Watson, a senior CAREGiver, about what a day in the life of a CAREGiver is like and the typical challenges that await successful candidates.

The Taster Day also included a number of activities including sensitivity and empathy tests to determine whether the aspiring CAREGivers share in the core values of Home Instead.

After a series of presentations and videos about the company, the potential CAREGivers were treated to a Q&A with a senior CAREGiver and with Sheena Van Parys, one of the directors at Home Instead.

Anne Watson, who has been with the company for four years, talked through her typical day on the job:

A day in the life of a CAREgiver

"I usually start at 7am... and it's helping clients get up, getting washed and dressed, giving them their medication and making breakfast.

"One of the ladies I visit, is just to chat with her over a cup of tea, and she just talks and talks. She's lovely.

"I think you've got to have the caring attitude to be in a job like this, you've got to want to care for somebody. You can get quite attached to your clients and if anything happens to them then it can be quite emotional."

"The training is second to none. Even after years of working in care, I've never learned more, and it keeps getting better." - Sandra, CAREGiver.
