Join Our CAREGiver Taster Day in Harrogate

Our population is ageing and finding the right people to care for the older generation is crucial.

A recent report from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills has identified the need to recruit over half a million carers by 2022. The report also listed caring as one of the careers of the future.

At Home Instead Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk, a recent independent research report identified that 85% of their staff understood what separated Home Instead from other care companies and 90% would recommend Home Instead as a great place to work. With remuneration for travel and waiting time between clients, above the living wage guaranteed hour contracts,  fuel allowance, a wellbeing programme and flexible working hours, Home Instead in Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk recognise their CAREGivers as the crucial front line staff they are.

Beth Parsons from Stray FM Radio discovered more about Home Instead and the CAREGiver role by chatting to some of the team who support clients living in around the towns of Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk, here is what they had to say:

CAREGiver Sarah, from Knaresborough, finds that working for Home Instead as a CAREGiver allows her to balance her job with looking after her two young children. Better still, when George starts school in September, Sarah can pick up some more hours.

"When you first join Home Instead, it's almost a job where you can choose your own hours to fit around your life. It works really well ... there's no pressure."

Emily is also a CAREGiver, working between 10 and 20 hours a week. The hours allow her to rely on family for childcare for her 18-month-old son.

"Nursery just wasn't an option for us, it would mean I would work to pay for nursery. Luckily, family members have offered to help out so it's working around when they're available to help."

If all of this sounds good to you, a career as a CAREGiver at multi-award-winning Home Instead could be for you. You don't have to have experience in care to become a CAREGiver. The nature of the work, supporting clients with their everyday activities means there are hours available at all times of the day, which could fit into your lifestyle.

Furthermore, you get full training, continual career development, and the opportunity to earn an NVQ qualification, at Home Instead, 100% of their CAREGivers feel they have access to training to do their job well.
