Harrogate Company Cares About Breakfast

Local home care company Home Instead recently supported and got involved with Farmhouse Breakfast Week 24- 30 January, by providing breakfast as well as breakfast recipe books to their team of caregivers and office staff. The team were able to drop into their local office and enjoy a range of breakfast foods including cereals and fruit. The awareness week promotes eating a good breakfast to kick start the day. Statistics show that 47% of people regularly skip breakfast during the week.

Home Instead who support older people in their own homes know the importance of eating a good breakfast and felt it was important to get involved with Breakfast Week, which is held annually by AHDB Cereals and Oilseeds and run on behalf of arable farmers who grow crops such as wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape.

The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast and demonstrate the wealth of wonderful breakfast produce available around the country. The campaign wants to encourage people to think about where their breakfast foods come from and support the cereal farmers who produce it.

Sheena Van Parys, owner of Home Instead commented ‘the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness on the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast; it gives you energy to kick start the day. A nutritious diet is essential as we get older and with one in four people skipping breakfast we want to help raise awareness of how important breakfast is in your diet.’

Campaign key messages

  • Breakfast benefits you and your family and can help make you healthier and happier.
  • Breakfast eaters tend to be slimmer than breakfast skippers.
  • Breakfast provides you with the energy and nutrients needed for an active lifestyle.
  • There are a wide variety of breakfast foods to choose from that can be enjoyed at home, at work or on-the-go.

Sheena Van Parys added; ‘On the back of this campaign we have now set up a breakfast club at our Ripley office to all our staff so that they can come in, relax and enjoy breakfast between 8.30am and 11am every morning. Every morning our team are busy in the community supporting their clients so it is important that they make time for themselves and ensure that they get a chance to eat breakfast.’
