Harrogate Caring Company Hosts Music Quiz

The team from Home Instead recently hosted a coffee morning and music quiz for the residents of Arthington Court, the Perevel retirement housing development in Harrogate. The residents relaxed and enjoyed listening to music ranging from the 1920’s to the 1950’s, including tracks from Al Jolson, Dame Vera Lynn, The Inkpots, Shirley Temple and Frank Sinatra. The residents were then asked to name the artist and song plus a bonus trivia question.

After the music quiz, tea, coffee and cake was served and an opportunity to have a good chat and catch up with friends. Prizes and Betty’s goody bags were then awarded to everyone who took part.

Sheena Van Parys from Home Instead commented: ‘it was a very enjoyable morning; music is a great tool to evoke memories of the past and provides us with many connections in our lives. It was a fun morning and a good opportunity to have a sing song with Dame Vera Lynn. ‘

The residents of Arthington Court enjoyed talking about the veteran singer who is best known for songs including We'll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of Dover, which boosted morale during World War Two.

Dame Vera Lynn who is now 98 years old, recently told ITV News that she still thinks of the service men that did not come home, almost 70 years after the jubilant celebrations that marked the end of World War Two

Sheena Van Parys added; “We are a local business and it is important to us to be able to support our local community.  Getting involved with activities for older people such as a music quiz is a great way for us to show our support. I would like to thank everyone at Arthington Court for inviting us to their coffee morning and for taking part in the quiz and making it such a fun event. We are looking forward to hosting another quiz with music from the 60’s.”
