Harrogate CAREGivers Take a Break for a Good Cause

The team at Home Instead recently got involved in an annual summer fundraiser entitled ‘Time out for Tea’ to raise money for local charity, Carers’ Resource. They held a strawberry tea party at their Ripley office in aid of this charity which offers support and advice to family carers in and around the Harrogate and Ripon area.

The event coincided with Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Carers Week is brought to life by the individuals and organisations that come together to organise activities and events throughout the UK, drawing attention to just how important caring is.

Locally Carers’ Resource offer a comprehensive information and signposting service covering everything from specific illnesses and disabilities to short breaks and holidays and from transport to long-term care.

Their staff can guide you through your caring role offering individually tailored support, advice on benefits entitlement, the chance to talk and guidance through the maze of local voluntary and statutory sector services available. They also run carer support groups, lunches and outings as well as visiting carers individually at their homes or a chat on the phone to offer companionship and extra support as and when they need it.

A donation of just £5.00 pays for a family carer to go on a half day shopping trip, to have a rare break from caring , to be with friends and relax for a few hours.

In order to help these family carers, a strawberry tea was served, with tea bags kindly donated by Taylors of Harrogate, and any donation was appreciated no matter how small, to go towards Carers’ Resource to enable them to support the army of unpaid family carers in our local community.

Sheena Van Parys from Home Instead commented; “We enjoyed hosting this tea party and to raise important funds for Carers’ Resource. The money will help fund carers outings and help with transport costs to give carers in the community a well-earned break. It was great to work together to make our communities carer friendly and to recognise the important job that carers do every day.”
