Local Company Home Instead who support people living in their own homes in and around the towns of Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk, recently stepped out to support local charity Dementia Forward in raising awareness for the great work that they do in the community.
The Home Instead team took part in the ‘Castle to Castle Walk’, walking from Knaresborough Castle to Ripley Castle, North Yorkshire, covering approximately 6 miles.
Dementia Forward currently support over 2,500 families living in North Yorkshire with this incurable disease. Every 3 seconds somebody in the world is diagnosed with Dementia, there are currently 850,000 people living with Dementia in the UK, and in North Yorkshire approximately 10, 000 people, this figure is expected to grow to 13,573 by 2025.
The team from Home Instead joined Dementia Forward, whose patron is actor John Middleton, known for his role in Emmerdale when he played a character living with dementia, and stepped out together to raise awareness and raise vital funds to help this charity to continue to provide support and care to those living with dementia and their families.
Sheena Van Parys, co-owner of Home Instead states; ‘this was a great opportunity to show our support for Dementia Forward, the weather was absolutely perfect for the walk and our team had a great time walking in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire. We raised £100 for the charity, which we know will be used to continue their great work at a local level, supporting local families’.
