Caring Company Supports Afternoon Tea Party in Thirsk

Cream cakes and tea were the order of the day recently at local venue East Thirsk Community Hall. The trustees of East Thirsk Community Association were able to host a fantastic afternoon tea party for the older residents of Thirsk at East Thirsk Community Hall thanks to a kind donation of £376.00 from local business Cargill.

The team at Home Instead volunteered their time to help out at the event as they regularly support the Christmas meal and provide all the refreshments. Sheena Van Parys, co-owner of Home Instead in Thirsk commented; ’it is great to be supporting East Thirsk Community Association again, we help every year at Christmas so it just seemed fitting to help out at this summer activity where older people can get together and have a lovely afternoon.’

Local business Cargill donated the money after raising funds at their past Christmas office event, ‘wear a Christmas jumper to work’ day. The organisation then kindly donated the money to the charity East Thirsk Community Association who annually hosts a free Christmas meal for the older residents of Thirsk, but this year decided in addition to this, to host a summer afternoon tea party.  This was a perfect opportunity to use the kind donation from the staff at Cargill to enable to get people together again and to help alleviate isolation and loneliness that some older people experience.

The trustees of East Thirsk Community Association invited all the guests who currently enjoy the annual Christmas event plus some new faces. The trustees and volunteers made a wonderful afternoon tea of sandwiches, quiches, strawberry scones and Victoria sponges, all washed down with numerous cups of tea and coffee. For the entertainment there was reminiscent music from the past, bingo and a very successful raffle.  30 guests thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and are looking forward to the next event organised by the trustees of East Thirsk Community Association with older people in mind.

Chair of East Thirsk Community Association, Cynthia Hesmondhalgh commented; ‘it was a lovely afternoon, the guests thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was a great opportunity for people to get together, relax and have a good time.  Many thanks to the staff at Cargill for their kind donation in making this all possible and to the trustees of the hall and the volunteers from Home Instead for working so hard on the day’.
