1st Birthday Celebrations for The Memory Lane Cafe
Lisa Stirk, Community Co-Ordinator at Home Instead was delighted to be a part of the Birthday Celebrations as she has been volunteering at the Cafe since December 2018 and has made some amazing friends along the way. Lisa said "What a wonderful afternoon celebrating the 1st year Anniversary since the volunteers took over the running and self funding The Memory Lane Cafe based at Gracious Street, Knaresborough, they really is a truly magical group of people".
for 5 years previously the memory Lane Cafe was run and supported by The Alzheimer's Society but when there was a risk of losing the funding for the cafe, the volunteers requested they took it over in it's own entity.
Yesterday afternoon saw the 1st Year Anniversary that the cafe has been self funding and what a great celebration it was too.
The Worshipful the Mayor Councillor Stuart Martin and his wife April also joined in the celebrations and they were delighted to meet the friends of the cafe and hear why it is such a special place and the friends they have made along the way. Not only for the people living with Dementia but also for their carers and the support they receive from one another.
two of the friends of the cafe who have been attending from the start, presented the Mayoress a beautiful basket of flowers and cut the Birthday Cake to the cheers of all the friends of the cafe.
There was a wonderful party atmosphere and all the hard work of the volunteers really paid off. There was a Quiz, beautifully decorated tables, strawberries and cream along with a cup of tea and a slice of the stunning cake that had been made by one of the original volunteers, Karen.
Happy Birthday Memory Lane Cafe and thank you for inviting Home Instead to be a part of your wonderful celebrations.
