Exploring Fareham and Gosport: Companionship and Independence with Home Instead

Join Home Instead at our blog as we share our joys of accompanying clients to enjoy outings in and around Fareham and Gosport, ensuring companionship, community and engagement

At Home Instead Fareham, we cherish the connections we build with our home care clients and the shared experiences we share that enrich their lives. Working in the lovely areas of Fareham and Gosport offers plenty of local opportunities to support the independence and social engagement of those we care for. Whether it’s getting out to feel the sea breeze at Lee-on-the-Solent or delving into history at Portchester Castle, here’s a glimpse into how we blend care with community and companionship.

Some of our favourite activities with clients

  • One of our absolute favourite activities is taking clients for a visit to the 3 or 4 miles of beaches at Lee-on-the-Solent. With splendid views stretching out to the Isle of Wight, this setting is perfect for a winter outing, and together clients and Care Professionals can seek out a warm cup of tea and a slice of cake, and enjoy the views. Come summer, the experience can also include a leisurely stroll along the seafront, and the classic seaside treat of enjoying an ice cream.
  • Lee-on-the-Solent isn’t just about its beach; the former Royal Naval air station, HMS Daedalus airfield, is a hive of activity during the warmer months. Sitting alongside our clients at the cafe@05, we particularly enjoy watching their famous fleet of Spitfires grace the skies from April to October. Observing historic aircraft gives our clients a chance to reminisce and appreciate the marvels of aviation.

  • Portchester Castle is nearby and has a rich history, and is the best preserved Roman fort north of the Alps! Clients love to walk and absorb the history of a Roman fort, Saxon Kings, and Norman invasions. There is also a very popular tea room at the church in the grounds frequented by our clients and Care Professionals all year round – it’s not just an outing; it’s a journey through time.
  • For those clients who are more mobile, we can organise a trip to the Royal Naval Submarine Museum at Gosport. Here, they can explore the depths of naval history by stepping aboard a submarine and gaining insight into the life of a submariner in post war years. These interesting visits often spark engaging conversations and offer a sense of connection to the past.

We believe that getting out into the community plays a vital role in maintaining a sense of independence for our clients. More than just care providers, we see ourselves as companions and enablers of enriching experiences that stimulate curiosity and boost the spirit of those we care for. Importantly our role is to support not only the physical well-being of our clients but also their emotional and mental health by keeping them connected with the world around them.
