Care Professional Catch Up with Zeta

With kindness that's clear to see, and a host of transferable skills, Zeta is embracing her role with Exeter & East Devon

Care Professional, Zeta, has always helped people, as have her family members…

Their collective careers have spanned many years and have included roles as residential wardens, hospitality colleagues and even as a footman to Royalty (in the case of her brother), so kindness and is in her genes!

After moving from the Midlands some years ago, Zeta had often found herself drawn to working in care, and in particular to Home Instead. She was aware of the company since she lived near our former Budleigh Salterton offices for a period of time. It was only after hearing Owner/Directors Mark and Vanessa McGlade, guesting on the local East Devon Radio breakfast show one Sunday morning, that Zeta decided to seize the moment and apply for the Care Professional role. Two years on, she hasn’t looked back…

Zeta catches up with us in a popular Sidmouth Café, straight off the back of a visit that she has completed with one of her clients, and it’s clear that she loves her job.

“I’ve just had a lovely morning with Mrs W, she does make me laugh”, smiles Zeta.

Zeta’s kindness is clear to see, and as coffee and cake is ordered, she continues to talk about her visit and how she is starting to form a really valuable relationship with her Client.

“We have an understanding” says Zeta, when talking about Mrs W. Her client has particular needs, and Zeta acknowledges that patience and consideration have been key in enabling this match to work so well.

“I really enjoy my job, really enjoy it” Zeta enthuses, “Mrs W and I have a respect for one another, and I am always mindful of the fact that I am going into her home, so I’m respectful. I remember the guidance given during training with Home Instead, and I always ask Mrs W for her thoughts on the tasks I am doing. I ask if I can hang my coat here or pop my bag down there, or I will involve her in decision making, so that she always feels in control. It’s a very simple thing, but I find it works well as it shows that I am respecting her and her routine. She’s an independent person, she just needs a little help at times”.

Talking of training with Home Instead, Zeta is full of praise for the three-day, fully funded induction programme and for the ongoing support that she continues to receive.

“Right from the start, it’s been easy. I was a little worried about the application, but the team were there every step of the way. I just made the call, and it worked. I was never left wondering what was happening, I was taken through it step by step.”

On that note, Zeta has come up with her own catchy, anacronym for Home Instead, “It’s STAR!” she says, “I feel Supported, the Training is brilliant, I really feel like I am Achieving and also that I am being Rewarded for my achievements. I honestly only have positive things to say!”

In the future, Zeta is hoping to grow her skill set, taking yet more training options with Home Instead via the Personalised Career Pathways initiative, but is keen to point that for now, the adaptable working at the company is also allowing her to commit herself to a second role locally.

“I am able to fit my two jobs in easily, they work well alongside one another, so I get variety, but my time with my client’s is definitely the highlight of my week”.

Zeta, we don’t doubt that your visits also brighten up the days of your clients equally! Thank you for taking the time to catch up, and for so openly sharing your experiences of your time working as a Care Professional team member at Home Instead, to date…
