Care Professional Catch Up...
with Hannah

The candidate journey into ‘care’ and the team at Home Instead, is often a really varied one, and Hannah is no exception.

The journey in to ‘care’ and to becoming part of the team at Home Instead, is often a really varied one, and we have learned never to be surprised by the career history of applicants.

That said, for our colleague Hannah, her route to Home Instead involved a rather large dose of fate, to say the very least…

With an obvious kindness of character and desire to help other people, Hannah first explored the healthcare sector as a young adult, completing her NVQ in Childcare. Raising her young family meant a break from the official world of work for a period of time, until a traumatic accident for a family member, meant that Hannah crossed paths with the medical sector, and in particular Biomedicine.

“When my son had his accident, the seriousness of the situation wasn’t immediately apparent to the Doctors examining him. It was only the intervention of the Biomedicine team that lead to a diagnosis, and his recovery. From that point, I was not only indebted to them, but also intrigued.”

Fast forward some four years, and Hannah and her family relocated from Northampton to Devon, where they had close family. With the fresh start that this offered, Hannah embarked on a Degree in Biomedicine, from which she proudly graduated, in 2020. Hannah recalls, “My graduation ceremony couldn’t happen as planned sadly, as Covid prevented gatherings from taking place. My ‘ceremony’ was a little different!” Having received her Graduation Gown by post, Hannah celebrated her achievement in style, with family around her, on the beach at Exmouth!

With this amazing achievement to her name, Hannah sought a role that would offer her not only the opportunity to help those within her local community, but to also enable her to develop practical, real time, experience of supporting individuals living with conditions related to her Biomedicine qualification.

Hannah says that her application to join Home Instead and her Care Professional role was perfect for her in this regard, “I was able to put my learning in to practice and aid with the care of people in my local community, and it amazed me how my Care Professional role and my degree were linked. It worked perfectly for me as I gained practical experience and built my skillset.”

Having thoroughly caught the ‘qualification bug’, Hannah also took advantage of the Home Instead Personalised Career Pathways scheme and has completed her RQF Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care, fully funded by Home Instead.

Not only that, Hannah has also assisted our Community Ambassador Team – a group of current Care Professionals who network within their particular communities to offer our free Community Talks to local organisations, businesses and groups. The team also spread word of the 5 Star Outstanding client care that we offer and of course, the array of opportunities currently available on the Home Instead team. This led to an opportunity to join the Training and Support Team, which Hannah has taken to with all of the enthusiasm and dedication that we have come to expect from our colleague.

Hannah, you’re an invaluable member of our Home Instead family, and we are lucky to have you!
