At Home Instead Epsom, we believe that ageing should be celebrated – not just marked by candles on a cake, but by recognising a life well lived, and by ensuring quality of life at every stage. This year, we’re delighted to be celebrating five incredible clients turning 100. Each of their stories is unique, but all share a common thread: a deep connection to care that is personal, consistent, and empowering.
One of those stories belongs to Christine, whose journey with Home Instead spans over a decade. Her family shared this moving insight into how care has supported not only Christine’s independence and wellbeing, but also brought peace of mind to her daughter who lives abroad.
“I first remember hearing about Home Instead about 15 years ago… An amazing lady from Home Instead helped my mother to sort through everything in the house, doing everything from selling items on eBay, to selecting items to pass to a local auctioneer, to trips to the dump. I don’t know how my mother, at over 90, would have managed without her help.”
From helping to downsize her home, to supporting her late husband through companionship and dementia care, to assisting with a smooth transition to a care home, Christine’s story is a testament to the depth and breadth of what compassionate care can truly mean.
“They go far beyond the regular service of ‘care’ and are more like the support of a family member.”
Christine is now 103 and still enjoys regular companionship visits. Her carers take her out for coffee, help with shopping and wardrobe needs, and stay attuned to her wellbeing. Thanks to their consistency and genuine affection, she remembers them fondly even as many other memories fade.
“One carer, Helen, has stayed with us all through and has really become one of the family.”
