Home care allows you to play a steady, practical role in helping local older adults stay settled in the places they know best. Whether you’re familiar with areas like North Weald, Loughton, Chigwell or the smaller villages dotted around the district, becoming part of the Home Instead Epping Forest team means you’ll be supporting people who value living life as independently as possible.

For anyone seeking work that blends naturally with family routines, studies, or other responsibilities, the career of a Care Professional offers a flexible way to contribute to your community while building significant connections with those you support.

The Value of Everyday Support

Helping our clients get dressed in the morning; enjoying a chat while preparing breakfast together; tackling a crossword puzzle or even venturing out for some fresh air – these small actions all help them feel not only important, but grounded and able to continue living their lives in their familiar spaces.

People from many walks of life succeed in home care – from retail and hospitality to childcare, customer service, and roles working directly with the public. If you’re dependable, patient, and approach others with kindness, you’ll find that these qualities are more important than previous experience.

“Being a Care Professional is the most fulfilling job I have ever had.

I love seeing the change in new clients.  Within just a couple of weeks, it goes from them being a bit suspicious of what we are there for and not really wanting us there to actually looking forward to our visits and trusting us.  It’s like you’re just visiting friends.

I feel very confident in my role, and I put this down to the ongoing training and support I receive from Home Instead.”

“I find being a Care Professional is very rewarding and knowing the lovely people I see are happy to see me and like the help they get from me.  It’s more than a job, it’s knowing they can stay in their homes where they want to be and building their trust and bond with them, and for me it’s seeing how they enjoy our visits and outings, and I can leave them knowing they’re happy and content in their home.”

Learning, Guidance, and Opportunities to Grow

When you join our team, we guide you through a thorough introduction to the role so you can build confidence from the very beginning.

Before supporting clients on your own, you’ll head out with experienced colleagues, shadowing them and seeing how they approach each visit. But this is not the end of your induction; ongoing training is a core part of the job, including the City & Guilds-assured Dementia Care Programme, which deepens your understanding of dementia support. As you settle in and develop new strengths, you’ll gradually take on tasks at a pace that feels manageable.

Before you know it, you’ll have the experience to step into other roles with more responsibility, such as training new colleagues or even moving into leadership roles.

“Since working at HI, I’ve found helping someone and making their life easier gives me a real sense of achievement.

Getting to know someone and building a relationship with someone is very rewarding.

The specialised training helps me to feel confident and supported in my role.

I enjoy working independently, but at the same time, I am part of a team. I feel supported and valued.”

These outings help our clients stay linked to the parts of the area that matter to them, while also giving you a deeper appreciation of the community you’re supporting.
