Home Instead Enfield joins World Alzheimer’s Month 2025 to raise awareness and support families.
September is World Alzheimer’s Month, a time when communities worldwide come together to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and support those affected by dementia. At Home Instead Enfield, we believe this month is vital because recognising the early signs of dementia in a loved one can lead to timely, life-enhancing support. Throughout September, our team will be attending events, sharing personal stories from clients and Care Professionals, and hosting community activities to ensure no one in Enfield faces dementia alone. From Winchmore Hill to Palmers Green, we’re standing alongside families and raising our voices for meaningful change.
In this blog, we explain what World Alzheimer’s Month is all about, why it’s particularly relevant in Enfield, and how you can take part in local events and awareness efforts. From sharing stories to supporting local initiatives, there are so many ways to get involved.
Launched by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) in 2012, World Alzheimer’s Month runs from 1–29 September. The campaign brings global attention to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, aiming to increase understanding and reduce stigma.
While World Alzheimer’s Day falls on 21 September, the full month is an opportunity to share stories, speak openly, and support those affected. It’s also a time to ask – are we doing enough, as individuals and as a society, to help those living with dementia?
This year’s theme, “Make Dementia a Priority,” challenges us to look beyond sympathy and towards action – in healthcare, in policy, and in local life.
Dementia has become the leading cause of death in the UK, yet it continues to be an area where greater awareness, funding, and understanding are still very much needed in mainstream political and social discussions. Families across Enfield tell us that the journey from diagnosis to daily care is often accompanied by emotional, practical, and medical questions that families may not feel prepared for.
At Home Instead Enfield, we see the realities of dementia every day. We support clients with early, mid, and late-stage symptoms, and we’re regularly in touch with loved ones who need guidance, respite, and reassurance.
World Alzheimer’s Month gives us a chance to put these conversations front and centre, to make sure no one in Enfield faces dementia alone.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, responsible for around 60–70% of all cases worldwide. It was first described by Dr Alois Alzheimer in 1906 and is caused by abnormal changes in the brain, including the build-up of plaques and tangles. These changes affect memory, language, reasoning, and behaviour.
There is currently no cure, but early diagnosis and support can significantly improve a person’s quality of life.
Knowing these signs – and seeking help early – can make a real difference.
Whether you’re directly affected or simply want to help, there are many ways to take part in World Alzheimer’s Month 2025 – and your voice matters.
Home Instead Enfield has developed a Dementia Friendly Training Programme aimed at family carers looking after a loved one with Dementia. The workshop explores ways of dealing with the disease in a positive way, understanding the different characteristics and finding meaningful activities to engage with as well as handling difficult behaviour.
For Dementia Awareness Month this September we have teamed up with the Ruth WInstone Centre in Palmers Green to offer the free workshop on Wednesday 24th September from 11.15am to 12.15pm. Please reserve your space by calling us on 0203 6024068.
The Dementia Friends initiative, run by Alzheimer’s Society, offers simple, free sessions online or in person. You’ll learn about what it’s like to live with dementia and how small everyday actions can help.
Many of our Care Professionals at Home Instead Enfield have become Dementia Friends, and we often recommend the programme to family carers too.

We’re fortunate in Enfield to be part of a borough that recognises the importance of dementia-friendly practice. The Enfield Dementia Network continues to work with local businesses, schools, faith groups, and transport services to break down barriers.
From improving public signage to offering dementia training in local libraries, these steps may seem small, but they make everyday life more manageable for someone living with memory loss.
We encourage everyone in Enfield to think about how their space or service could be more dementia-aware. If you’d like to run a dementia audit of your workplace, our team at Home Instead Enfield would be happy to connect you with the right resources.
If you run or manage a business in Enfield, there are practical ways you can support this year’s campaign:
Simple actions signal that your business welcomes and supports all members of the community.
If you or someone you love is living with dementia, you are not alone. Support is available.
Key Contacts for the Enfield Community:
Music, poetry, painting and dance can all help people with dementia connect, express and feel joy. At Home Instead Enfield, we often incorporate reminiscence and music into our visits – from singing familiar tunes to creating memory boxes.
If you work in the creative arts or local education, this September is a wonderful time to think about how your talents could be used to support dementia care in Enfield. Could you run a music session in a care home? Share an intergenerational storytelling event? We’d love to hear your ideas.
This World Alzheimer’s Month, let’s not just talk about change; let’s lead it. Whether you’re a family carer, a student, a business owner, or simply someone who cares, your actions count.
Home Instead Enfield is proud to stand with those affected by Alzheimer’s and all types of dementia, not just in September, but all year round.
Join us as we raise awareness, spark conversations, and build a more understanding and compassionate Enfield.
If you’re running a World Alzheimer’s Month event, sharing your story, or want to get involved in our office campaign, please get in touch. Together, we can make a difference that lasts long after September ends.
