At Home Instead East Hertfordshire, we are proud to support our clients not just with outstanding care, but also with heartfelt moments that matter.
Today, across Bishop’s Stortford, Ware, Hertford, Sawbridgeworth, and Hoddesdon, our Care Professionals joined clients in marking a truly special occasion — the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.
Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) holds deep significance for many of our clients. As we mark eight decades since the end of WWII in Europe, we made sure to commemorate the day with dignity, gratitude, and a sprinkle of celebration. Wearing Union Jack hats, waving flags, and sharing cupcakes, our team brought joy and companionship to those who remember this historic milestone first-hand.
From conservatories to cosy living rooms, we travelled across East Herts delivering cheerful visits, specially prepared cakes, and Union Jack flags. The response was overwhelming — our clients’ faces lit up with joy, many reminiscing about their memories of VE Day in 1945.
One client recalled the street parties with neighbours and dancing in the streets, while another shared how she listened to Winston Churchill’s speech on the wireless. Each story was a vivid reminder of how these remarkable individuals lived through, and helped shape, our history.
“It means so much that you’ve come today — I remember the church bells and everyone cheering. It was a day of hope after years of fear.”
Moments like these are what make Home Instead so special. Our mission goes beyond delivering care — it’s about nurturing connections, celebrating life’s meaningful moments, and honouring the people we serve.
Whether it was a client enjoying their cupcake in the garden, or proudly holding up the flag in their favourite chair, today was filled with joy, respect, and the spirit of community that defines our approach to care.
